The Suisun Valley, located less than an hour from Napa Valley, is often a welcome respite for weary travelers after long days of hectic traffic and congested highways.
This wine-rich region, nestled in the foothills of Solano County's open hillsides, has miles upon miles to offer visitors.
Large swaths of land with well-stocked vineyards that produce some of California's best grapes.
Panoramic views allow one to imagine farmlands as far north as Sacramento or as far south as Walnut Grove.
Fairfield, for example, is both historic and bustling, with shops ranging from quaint antique stores to large retailers on Main Street, all while retaining their small-town charm.
The many calm days here make touring easy because there are no major hills to climb and traffic, even on weekends, moves better than in Napa.
The Suisun Valley is home to over 25 wineries, the majority of which were established during the 1990s wine boom period; however, there are a few from the mid-twentieth century that have recently been revived due to renewed interest in small family-owned wineries producing premium wines. While many of these vineyards only offer tours by appointment or during special events such as harvest season, there are a few tasting rooms open daily for visitors who do not want to wait.
