Vacaville is in northern Solano County, halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento. The City of Vacaville, founded in 1892 and now covering just under 27 square miles, is set in a picturesque setting surrounded by rolling hillsides, fruit orchards, and fertile farmland. Vacaville, which has an elevation range of 90 to 300 feet, has warm summers and mild winters, with an average summer high of 94o and an average winter low of 36o. The average annual rainfall is about 24 inches.

 

Vacaville's rich history has transformed the community from a small agricultural town to a thriving and progressive city with a diverse population of 97,446 residents. Despite the City's rapid growth in population and demographics, Vacaville remains a "small town at heart," with residents taking pride in their high level of community involvement.

Attractions & Activities in Vacaville

Vacaville is easily accessible by plane, train, or car and is close to some of the state's best attractions. It also has a pleasant Mediterranean climate that allows for both outdoor and indoor fun all year.

Agriculture is abundant in Vacaville, from alpaca farming to locally grown produce. Visit one of their nearby farms for a day of family fun and outdoor adventure.

Explore historic downtown Vacaville or discover a new favorite vintage at one of the neighboring Suisun Valley wine country's first-class vineyards and wineries, just a short drive from Napa and Sonoma. 

Shoppers and diners can choose from hundreds of stores and restaurants, including national chains as well as family-owned establishments. Visit one of Vacaville's many seasonal farm stands for fresh local flavor, or treat yourself to vibrant performing and visual arts - the possibilities are endless in Vacaville!

There are numerous outdoor activities to choose from, and the mild climate means that you can enjoy hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities all year long in Vacaville! Aside from hiking in Lagoon Valley, you can also take a stroll through the classic Andrews Park, which hosts a variety of events all year.

If you want to go shopping, go to the Nut Tree or the Vacaville Premium Outlets, which have a variety of major retailers and local businesses. Coach, Michael Kors, and Kate Spade are just a few of the upscale retailers available at the Vacaville Premium Outlets. The Nut Tree, just over the freeway, has an eclectic mix of local and big brand stores, including Jelly Belly, Apricot Lane, Best Buy, and Nordstrom Rack. The historic Nut Tree, now rebuilt and modernized, was established in 1921 and grew to become one of California's most legendary roadside stops. The iconic train that used to transport visitors to and from the airport still runs in a loop around the famous landmark.

Vacaville Today

While first settling back during 1849, gold was found nearby; today, Queen Anne-style Victorian homes dominate this area known locally as "Old Town."

The Solano County Fairgrounds (home of the famous "World's Best 4-H Fair") is only minutes from the heart of Downtown Vacaville, making it easy for residents to enjoy events in neighboring towns while also hosting their own events to enhance their small-town charm.
