EBIA is a public charter school that is free and open to all students who apply. Because we believe in equity, a diverse group of kids participates in a STEAM-focused, empathy-based education. Through the core curriculum and intersession, students employ design thinking methods to get exposure to a number of various topics and experiences, all with the goal of helping students imagine and create their vision of a better society."

Around 420 students attend East Bay Innovation Academy. These pupils are white 39% of the time, hispanic 22% of the time, black 15% of the time, two or more races 14% of the time, and other 10% of the time. These numbers are less diverse than the usual OUSD diversity numbers.

EBIA prepares a diverse set of students to succeed in college as well as to be thinking, involved citizens who are leaders and innovators in a global world in the twenty-first century.

EBIA is redefining how schools are operated and structured to better reflect the requirements of the twenty-first century. In the last 50 years, most schools haven't changed their structure, organization, facilities, or instruction. While schools have remained the same, our world has evolved, putting many of our schools, including the “best,” behind. EBIA gives Oakland families and educators a valuable tool for creating a diverse school that meets the demands of the twenty-first century and beyond.

They believe in possibility and sustainability. All students will attain their highest potential and be well-prepared for college and career success. They value bravery, action, and dedication.

They value creativity and inquisition. Students will collaborate with others who are both critical and creative. Exploration, perspective, and determination are important to us.

They believe in the power of community. Kids, parents, teachers, school administrators, and board members will all be held accountable for the achievement of all students. Relationships, kindness, integrity, and respect are important to us.

They believe in the overall purpose. Students will learn about social justice and civic duty through EBIA. Giving back to the community and enhancing our school, community, and world are important to us.

They support diversity. Working with and appreciating others who are different from themselves will help students prepare for society and the workforce.
